Our
Story

Peterson Farm has been a family business for over 50 years and a family-owned and -operated farm for more than a century. Now under the ownership of Allen Peterson, the farm is proud to welcome the next generation, as his granddaughter Kaitlyn Bentley steps into the family tradition with passion and purpose.

What began in 1957 as a small farm market has grown into a thriving local destination known for its commitment to quality, tradition, and community. We offer fresh, homegrown produce, a full garden center with a wide variety of seasonal bedding plants, perennials, and vegetable plants, as well as flowers for the everyday gardener.

Celebrating the rich Nordic heritage of the Jamestown, New York area, Peterson Farm features a Scandinavian market stocked with both imported specialties and foods made in-house. Our Scandinavian Gift Shop highlights unique local products and handcrafted items that reflect the culture and spirit of the region.

We’re also home to Dalahäst Roasting Co., our small-batch craft coffee brand, offering ethically sourced, fair-trade beans roasted right here on the farm. Whether you're visiting for fresh produce, plants, heritage foods, or artisan coffee, we invite you to be part of our growing tradition.

Livestock Practices

Our breeding cows are pastured year-round, with calves born naturally in the spring and summer. Cow/calf pairs remain on pasture until weaning, after which the calves are brought into the barn and fed a balanced diet of farm-raised hay and corn until they are ready for market. During the winter months, our breeding cows are supplemented with farm-grown hay while the pastures rest.

We are committed to responsible, ethical animal care. No animal on our farm is ever given growth hormones, steroids, or bone meal feed. Antibiotics are only used when medically necessary to treat illness, and we strictly follow all withdrawal protocols before any animal is sent to market or slaughter. All of our farm staff are thoroughly trained in the humane handling and care of livestock, ensuring a low-stress, respectful environment for our animals.
